About

Hello! My name is Maya. Welcome to my blog!

Let me quickly introduce myself – An engineer by degree, I moved from India to the US at age 20 to start grad school. I work for the tech industry (I get it; I am a cliché). My career has taken me places (quite literally) – after having moved 30 odd apartments in 10+ years, I finally quit my living-off-the-suitcase-consultant-job and moved to New Jersey a couple of years ago.

I heart New Jersey! Not sure if it has the same ring to it as “I heart NYC or Malibu”, but I do heart it all the way. I live in a quaint little town, amid preserved lands and wildlife habitats, in Somerset County. I adore everything about Somerset County – the green pastures, natural preservers, farmers markets and the scenic route I get to take on my drive to work. I especially love the fact that I can get to NYC in less than an hour and still get my ‘dosai’ (an Indian crepe) fix any time I want.

I am married to a kind soul, a wonderful human being and my best friend, K.

Why the blog?

My love for writing comes from my father. I grew up amidst poetry, philosophy and books. The ability to convey deep meanings – beautifully and concisely – fascinates me and invigorates my soul. I started this blog to simply “write”. And to write about topics that are close to my heart.

Most people in my family are avid part-time gardeners – healthy eating and sustainability were constantly emphasized on. I am a product of my environment and I believe in living as gently on this earth and as authentically as possible. I write about Nature & Nurture – a series of posts on eating & discovering healthy foods, growing your own food and sustainability. We are all one with nature, and that’s a journey I hope to inspire you to take.

During high school, I was determined to study Architecture and Interior Design (and I somehow ended up as a software engineer). I have always gravitated towards “Hygge” and choose to live in comfortable, beautiful and soulful spaces. While I don’t have formal training in Architecture or Interior Design, I have watched enough HGTV to last a lifetime! K & I sold our very first project, a townhome, for 20K above asking! This townhome had one of the highest sale prices ever within the community. Rather than following the latest fad or the one-design-fits-all approach, I believe in creating functional spaces that make sense and in designing a home that caters to our own Zen moments. My husband K & I recently bought our first home, The Red Banyan, and ‘The Red Banyan Studios‘  captures our efforts in taking this builder-grade, 90s-era, colonial into an uber-chic designer retreat!

Welcome to my hearth! I hope you stay a while!
